Over the years there have been many misconceptions about Montessori nurseries. One of the myths is that it’s just for talented children. The fact is it’s designed to ensure success for all children. Read this blog to find out how your child might benefit.
Each child is a unique individual
Montessori nurseries have always been a popular preschool choice with young, professional adults. But what makes them stand out from the thousands of other nurseries out there?
The first Montessori school opened in 1907, in Rome
Dr Maria Montessori is responsible for the learning philosophy behind Montessori schools and nurseries. She developed a unique set of teaching methods that are still alive today in Montessori nurseries and schools across the world.
Every child’s potential should be nurtured
Irrespective of a child’s background, Dr Montessori proved through her research, that by placing a child in a healthy, stimulating nursery, school and home environment, their natural potential emerges. Giving children the freedom to be themselves and to make choices.
Dr Montessori said it was wrong to push children into completing tasks in a set time. She recognised that children needed to be given the freedom to find out for themselves (within the limits of the prepared environment) in their time, with just the right amount of encouragement. She proved that by giving children a choice rather than telling them what to do, they developed a greater sense of confidence, awareness and learning interest.
Good quality, child-sized equipment and a well ordered environment
You will find that most Montessori nurseries are exceptionally well planned and equipped, offering children a ‘ready to learn’ environment where they can begin exploring and carrying out learning activities based on the 6 Montessori Curriculum-themed areas. It’s a calm, peaceful place where children just get on with things and have fun.
Learning for life
What makes a Montessori nursery stand out? It’s the structured, planned environment that makes all the difference, encouraging children to be expressive, to make choices, to learn at their own pace and to become confident learners, ready to tackle the challenges that life throws at them.
